27 Summer Tips & Routines: skin, hair and beauty tips.

It's Summer again, not one of my best seasons of the year really because of fear of sunburn and all that. Am sure some of you are in the same shoes as I am, thinking of what kind of skincare routine would be good for your skin this hot season. So, am not just going to share tips on summer skincare, but would be looking into other areas, such as tips for facials, hair, and how to get a cool shave this summer. and so first off:

Skincare

  1. Moisturize: get one with a sunscreen protector, to prevent sunburn. never forget to moisturize before going into the sun and also if possible before you go to bed, which helps to keep the skin hydrated.
  2. Don't Exfoliate excessively: In my last post, i talked about the benefits of exfoliating the skin and how important it is to regularly do that. it is important to exfoliate during summer after getting out of the sun to remove dead cells but do not do it excessively. It makes your skin more sensitive to the sun, so just do that like once or twice a week.
  3. Drink lots of water: One way to really stay hydrated during the summer is to drink water, lots of it. when you get in the sun you get dehydrated and sweat a lot, so drinking lots of water helps in replenishing the fluids lost. you could even carry bottled water in your handbag, i do that all the time.
  4. Eat well: Eat lots of fruits and vegetables this season, you also want to eat anything that contains more vitamins C and E. Try some watermelons, oranges, apples, salads with lots of green vegetables in them, nuts, avocados, etc. All these really help in keeping your skin glowing and healthy during the summer.
  5. Take cool Showers: After exposing your skin to the hot sun, taking a hot shower would be a punishment for your skin. Try taking cool showers and it helps just like drinking lots of water, it even reduces the skin's redness or burn and acne.

Facials:

My number one routine is i never wear too much makeup. you seriously do not want to do that this summer that is if you don't want to end up looking all caked up and oily, just go less. I am not going to be going too deep just the essentials.

  1. Moisturize: Always moisturize your face, this will help keep your face hydrated, you don't want your face to look dry when you're out in the sun.
  2. Primers: always use a face primer, it helps in locking in the foundation so it stays longer.
  3. Foundations: I mostly don't like to apply cream foundation to my face during the summer season, but when i do i go for a lighter foundation. And is best to use lighter foundations with SPF, so you also get protected when you step out into the sun. you could also go for cream-to-powder foundations which leave your skin less oily. you could also use a dampened makeup sponge to apply foundations so it stays light and sheer.
  4. Eye-shadows: you could go for creamy eye shadows, cause it stays on better and longer while in the sun.
  5. Mascara: It's best to always go for waterproof mascara. no matter how hard you sweat on the face it stays on without smudging.
  6. Bronzer and Highlight: If you were never a fan of bronzers and highlighters, you might want to consider using them this summer. just apply them to the high points of your face, forehead, nose, and cheekbones, these even give you a more natural look in the sun. am a big fan of powder bronzer and highlight so even better to use them during summer.
  7. Eyeliner: Rather than using a Kohl eyeliner it is better to go for liquid eyeliner, stays on better without smudging.
  8.  Powder: for me, i use a cream to powder foundation but you could also apply a luminous powder just to give your face the shine in the sun.
  9. Lips: Try something lighter on your lips, even better go for lip gloss rather than lipsticks. or if you choose to apply lipsticks always finish up with a lip gloss, helps your lips from becoming dry while out in the sun.
  10. Oil Absorbing Sheets: These are really good during the summer, rather than refreshing your face with powder almost all the time, it soaks up the excess oil on your face and helps avoid smudging.

Hair:

The summer always brings with it heat and dust, which can lock up into our hair when outdoors during this season. If we are not careful this can damage our hair either natural or not. There are a lot of tips but am just going to highlight some very important ones.

  1. Cover hair: if you are going to be out in the sun for too long it's better to cover your hair with a hat or a scarf to protect it from getting damaged and too dry.
  2. Avoid blow drying: this makes the hair frizz, and it is much better to air-dry your hair rather than putting it through heat that would only damage it.
  3. Deep Condition: these are really good during this time, it helps keep your hair hydrated.
  4. Excess Shampooing: now is not the time to shampoo your hair every day, it causes more damage to the hair. Opt for shampoos that are good for the summer, and find something with a sunscreen protector. if possible wash your hair once or twice a week.
  5.  Hair Products: be careful with the kind of hair products you apply to your hair. I always like to apply shea butter or any essential oil to my hair to reduce its dryness. Go for hair products with sunscreen protectors.
  6. Hairstyles: Opt for protective hairstyles, there are lots of natural protective hairstyles to wear.

Getting a Cool shave:

So far i have talked about taking care of your skin, hair, and facials for the summer, and now let's talk about shaving. One thing i have noticed is that lots of people don't talk about getting a cool shave during the summer, most blogs just talk about summer skin care and leave out the shaving part. If you are a big fan of shaving your legs and where ever you feel like it, you should take note of these few tips, and this one sure benefits the men too.
  1. Use cold water & ice: Try using cold water to wash off after shaving, and also applying ice can also help achieve an easy shave, it softens the hair which makes it easy to shave. You can apply ice after applying your shaving cream.
  2.  Shave slowly: you don't want to have cuts all over your legs or face after shaving. so gently and slowly shave for better results.
  3. Shaving cream: don't shave a dry leg. it's very important to use a shaving cream, which helps in reducing the friction between your razor and your skin. And it helps in reducing cuts as well.
  4. Razors: You should never use razors that are blunt, always change your razors. it's also very important to use quality razors for a better shave.
  5. shaving lotion or oil: stepping into the sun after shaving without applying either an after-shave lotion or oil would do your skin no good. It helps in keeping the skin soft and smooth and reduces redness. stay away from any lotion that contains alcohol to avoid redness and irritation.
  6. Moisturize: never forget to always moisturize your legs or face after a good shave before stepping out into the sun. moisturizing the skin as you know keeps it hydrated and locks in moisture, and also will keep your legs glowing in the sun.
Lastly, remember the key to better skin during the summer is moisturizing, and you could even invest in some good hand cream, that's one thing I never forget to go out with. never forget to go for products with sunscreen protection.

Don't forget to share with us in the comments your own tips and routines for the summer, if you got any.

   Enjoy the summer.
